National Walking Day is today, April 4. UnitedHealthcare is encouraging Montclairites to get up, walk more and make a commitment to better health through the Step Up for Better Health Pledge.

Knowing where to start can often be more complicated than it seems, so to help to visualize what 10,000 steps looks like,  see the above map for a suggested route for Montclair.  The 10,000 step, five-mile walk should take about an hour and a half.

UnitedHealthcare will donate $1 on behalf of each of the first 25,000 people to sign the Step Up for Better Health Pledge to Boys & Girls Clubs to help reduce childhood obesity. Participants will also be automatically entered to win fitness-related prizes such as an Apple Watch or a Foot Locker gift card.

UnitedHealthcare has created an online resource (uhcwalkingmaps.com) with information about the health benefits of walking, suggested 10,000-step walking routes in more than 50 major cities, and a tool that allows you to map out your own 10,000 step walk.
