Cheryl Hopper is resigning as Glenfield Middle School‘s principal at the end of the school year.

Hopper announced her resignation in a letter sent to the Glenfield school community on Wednesday, June 5, saying that she was leaving at the end of the school year in order to concentrate on her Ph. D studies in teacher education and teacher development.

“Please know that my tenure at Glenfield Middle School and Edgemont Montessori Elementary School over the last seven and a half years has been among the most rewarding of my life, both professionally and personally. I greatly appreciate the support I have received over those years, and it has been fulfilling to see your children learn and grow so much in that time,” wrote Hopper, calling Glenfield “a special place.”

Hopper is one of several Montclair school principals rotated last year, and her departure is the third change in leadership at Glenfield in a year.

In October, Hopper was reassigned from Edgemont to Glenfield after Anthony Grosso, then-acting principal at Glenfield, was moved to Montclair High School following the departure of James Earle. Jeffrey Freeman, an assistant principal at Montclair High School, was moved to Edgemont to take Hopper’s place. Grosso became Glenfield principal in July 2018 after principal Joseph Putrino was moved to Renaissance.
