Carrie Lane Pearlman, of Montclair, and Mariella Diaz, of Bloomfield, plus five others from the Baristaville area, are in the running to be named the next Face of Bangz. The 10 finalists’ photos and statements are now posted at the Bangz website, where votes can be cast for another four days.

The backgrounder on Carrie Lane Pearlman, of Montclair, on the Bangz site says she:

has always been inspired to be a role model that exudes more than beauty but also strength. Upon learning she was a juvenile diabetic at an early age, she exemplified independence by becoming an advocate for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Carrie tries to be her best every day in order to emulate that confident feeling women have when leaving the salon. She hopes to donate her prize money to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation because it has helped her grow so much inside and out.

Mariella Diaz, of Bloomfield, is profiled this way:

a strong and independent individual who considers herself a triple minority as a Hispanic, gay, woman. Diaz hopes to exemplify strength and hope to those around her so they can truly find peace in the things that make them feel happy and whole. For this reason, she hopes to donate her prize money to Garden State Equality so she can become an equal voice in the LGBT community and advocate beyond basic and civil rights.

At the time of this post, Pearlman had 421 votes, just three spots behind the leader, and Diaz had 323. C’mon Montclair and Bloomfield, let’s give them some hometown love! You can vote once a day for each contestant.

Joining them in the competition are five other area women: Jannel Arrieche, Summit; Kristina Olszewski, West Orange; · Marcia Worth-Baker, South Orange; Alison Goldfine, Maplewood; and Amber Delaney, Cedar Grove.

A panel of judges selected the finalist on the basis of “originality, creativity and kindness”. From the 10 finalists, the five with the most votes will compete live in front of the judging panel at Bangz Salon and Wellness Spa on April 22. According to the salon, the tri-state competition seeks “a young woman that shares the same charitable ambitions as the salon.” Winners receive up to $1500 in salon treatments and a $500 check for the charity of their choice.

The 2012 Face of Bangz winner was a Montclair resident, Ella Crowe, who designated her $500 award for her choice charity, the Hudson Perinatal Consortium, Doula Program.
